736		Earliest written record of the cultivation of hops, describes a hop garden near Geisenfeld in the Hallertau region of Germany.
9th - 12th centuries		European hops cultivation centered around Bohemia, Slovenia and Bavaria.
1067		The oldest surviving written record of the use of hops in beer is by Abbess Hildegarde of St. Ruprechtsberg: "If one intends to make beer from oats, it is prepared with hops."
early 16th century		Hops are introduced to British beers.
1629		The first hops garden was in production in America, on Manhatten.
1750s		Hops cultivation had spread to Louisiana in America.
end of the 18th century		New England was well suited to hops cultivation, and by the end of the 18th century, hops was being exported from Massachusettes to France and Germany.
